Deep Conditioning Challenge 2012 on Hairlista

I just joined the 2012 deep conditioning challenge on The challenge is from May 6, 2012 to September 6, 2012. The rules are as follows:

1. Deep condition at least once per week, on wet or dry hair. If you are wearing braids or weaves, once per 10-14 days.

2. Shampooing is not required.

3. Deep condition using your method of choice: Heat cap, hooded dryer, steamer, hot towels or no heat.

4. You must DC for a minimum of 30 minutes.

5. Post a starting picture so you can see your progress at the end of the challenge.

Here is my starting pic:

And here is my proposed deep conditioning regimen:

For protein I will be using Motions CPR treatment or raw eggs mixed with tressemme and natural oils. For moisture I will be doing the caramel treatment every 4 weeks and Shea Moisture's Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque as a leave in. Looking to purchase Keracare humecto for my weekly moisturizing deep conditoner. Since summer is coming; I may throw in a co wash here and there.

Are you down for this challenge? If so join me here and feel free to post your regimen or you can go straight to the hairlista website and join the group created by Growlonghair at

Good Luck!

The Caramel Treatment: Results

So this weekend I finally had a chance to do the caramel treatment. In a previous post; I posted the ingredients and such. First impression; very sticky and a little messy. 2nd impression; I should have used baby food bananas because the bananas I used are still stuck in my head O_o . Overall, my hair feels very moisturized and I see that my curls are a little more defined. I plan to try this treatment again in about 4 weeks and use it every 4 weeks thereafter. Oh and I was also able to detangle a lot better also. I'm hoping that these results last through out the next couple of weeks. I'll keep you all posted on whether or not the treatment keeps my hair as managable as it is right now. Here are a few pics : The first are with the treatment in my hair. Love how it took away a lot of shrinkage. Gives me an idea of my hair length unstretched but without so much shrinkage.

And here are a few pics once I rinsed out the treatment:

As you can see; banana is in my hair.

My curl pattern is definitely more defined and my hair feels wonderful. I moisturized with a sample of Shea Moisture 's Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque (review to come) and sealed with Jamaican Black Castor oil. Loving the results; the pics do no justice. I wish that you can see it in person.

With this treatment I would definitely feel comfortable wearing my hair "out". But I am planning to wear a sock bun this week. (pics and review in the next blog).

Until the next time.....

Dead Sea Clay / Mud Mask ~ Time to Detox ~ (at home skin care)

I really enjoyed this mask. I left it on for about 30 minutes and you can feel the tingly feeling. I used the ebay seller that he suggests and I bought two containers for about $2.98 shipped directly from Israel. I'll use this over the next couple of months and report back to you on how my skin is doing. It wouldn't be fair to give a review on using it one time. I plan to use this product weekly. Here are a few pics for kicks!

 Scary! LMBO.

Product Review: Jamaican Mango & Lime Transition Natural Springing Gel

Product Features

  • For Maintaining Chemical-Free Hair
  • Alcohol-Free Formula
  • Moisturizes Hair
  • Curl Enhancer
  • Adds Volume

Product Description

Jamaican Mango & Lime Transition Natural Springing Gel "transition from relaxer to natural" soft control, adds volume, curl enhancer, alcohol free, moisturizes, for maintening chemical free hair. Is a gel that will help tame that out of control natural and those edges that won't lay down. You can also create that Funky Fro (afro that looks neat and out of control at the same time) and unlimited styles using the Springing Gel.

I used this product during Christmas time to maintain my fro. It worked well and did not leave my hair crunchy. At night I would use a little of the springing gel while re-plaiting my hair at night. It worked so well that recently I tried it for my marley braid bun but it did not give me the hold I was looking for like the eco styler gel does. I'll stick to using this product for maintaing my fro and twistout styles.

Frugal finds!

I am always looking for better ways of being frugal. Here are a few things that I am currently doing:

  • Shopping at Dollar General -('Nuff said lol) But buyer beware; everything is not a dollar; that is where Dollar Tree comes into play! LMBO.
  • Making things from scratch- (i.e. homemade playdoh, cookies, cakes, and other fine recipes).
  • Shopping online- but you have to be careful. Sometimes things online are more expensive. You have to shop around and coupon codes are your best friend.
  • Do It Yourself (DIY)- haircare, manicures and pedicures
  • Buy in Bulk- I love SAM's for when I need bulk items
  • Facebook- If you "like" companies; they will tell you when they are having sales and many offer facebook only coupon codes and incentivs.
  • Natural Products- I use natural products such as baking soda, honey, olive oil, lemons, apple cider vinegar and etc for things from facials to haircare, to cleaning. These are things that I normally have around the house and they are multi purpose items.
  • Bargain shopping- I recently found 4 pair of work pants for 63.00. These are nice quality pants that were on clearance because winter is out and spring is in but I still needed black, pinstrip and grey pants. This was a huge save because all of the pants were at least 49.99 each minimum.

Frugal websites that I adore: I found a charger for my laptop for about 2.00. The shipping was more than the actual item. LOL. The total was probably something like 7 bucks. Other websites and stores had the charger for 50.00 and higher.

There are tons of frugal websites. Just google "frugal" or "frugal websites".

Walking Challenge: Lets try this again...Injury Free

Ok so today is April 1st and I am going to start the walking challenge again. Im going to go ahead and make this a 6 month challenge. My achilles feels a lot better but still not 100 percent so I will be taking it slow and only walking about 3 or 4 days per week instead of 5 to 7 like I was before. I probably won't use the incline right now either. I've missed walking and I'm ready to start again. I can definitely see results from the walking challenge and I am looking forward to more. I have an ace bandage that I will be wearing while  walking as well. Warming up and stretching will be key to not getting reinjured!! Just as a precaution; I will also soak my foot in very warm water and epsom salt at the end of each session. Even though I did not exercise in March; I did not gain any weight! YAY!!! I actually lost a whopping 0.8 pounds lol. I tried really  hard to watch what I was eating since I wasn't able to exercise but I cheated several times. hahahaah. Oh well; it's a new month and new goals to set.

Fitness Goals for April 1st - October 1st (6 months)
-Avoid injuries
-Walk as much as possible
- Lose a minimum of 50 pounds (more would be wonderful)
-Drink lots of water daily

I'll be checking in.

I am not an expert in haircare/beauty and etc. I simply blog about what works for ME and what I like or dislike. Also I DO NOT NORMALLY measure when I cook. I AM an expert in Business as I have mastered that field but I will not be giving advice on personal business unless it is general info such as how to improve your credit. That answer is to simply pay your bills on time and do not over spend. Always buy what you can pay back... lol. I do not claim any responsibility for the results you've obtained from reading suggestions on my blog.
