The Caramel Treatment

The Caramel Treatment is a treatment that I stumbled upon when I was relaxed. I was a long term stretcher so I needed to find tips and tricks that would aid in softening and moisturizing my new growth between those long relaxer stretches.

Ingredients needed:

1/4 cup Raw Honey
1/4 cup Molasses
I also like to add a tablespoon of each: Coconut oil (melted), Olive oil, and shea butter(melted)
2 over ripe bananas or a jar or so of banana baby food
A splash or two of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
1 tablespoon of cornstarch to thicken the mixture
**optional** Water to thin the mixture if to thick
Some people use natural yogurt and may substitute some of the other ingredients but the main ingredients to this treatment are honey, molasses and bananas.

Now that I am natural; I am really excited about trying this treatment. I'll give it a try next weekend and report back to you on my results.

No Flat Iron or Hot Comb until December Challenge.

I've decided to NOT use direct heat on my hair until sometime in December of 2012. I haven't used heat since January and that was to blow out my fro.  I may give myself a pass here and there to blow out my hair with a blow dryer ONLY but  I don't plan on flat ironing/straightening my hair anytime soon. This challenge should be fairly easy as I plan to get braids soon and keep them for the entire spring/summer season. As I've said before; my hair progresses most when left alone and Ive also mentioned that my goal for 2012 is APL length hair and I have about 5 or 6 inches to go. I know by not using direct heat and wearing low manipulation hairstyles; this goal will be attainable.

Protein Treatment using Eggs.

When I became completely natural; I focused a lot on putting moisture into my hair because it was really, really dry. But lately I've realized that I haven't had a good protein treatment in a while. Hair normally sheds about 100 hairs a day. My hair had been shedding a little bit more lately and just didn't feel as strong as it normally does so I knew that it was time for a protein treatment. "Listen to your hair and it will tell you what it needs." This statement is very true!! It takes a lot of patience, research, reading, educating and trial and error to learn your hair. I have consistently been taking care of my hair since May or June of 2008. It is imperative that you do your research, study your products, look up ingredients and etc. In my opinion you cannot go by what someone else does whose hair looks like it is the same type/texture as yours. No two heads are alike so you have to find what works for you. For a mild protein treatment I use aphogee 2 minute reconstructor or Nature's Gate Biotin Conditioner. For my hard/heavy protein treatments; I like to use the aphogee 2 step treatment or two raw eggs mixed with olive oil.

So last Sunday I just felt the need for a heavier protein treatment. I mixed two eggs and olive oil and applied it all over my head. I let it sit for about 15 minutes without a plastic cap. I then rinsed, shampooed and deep conditioned with moisture. I allowed my hair to air dry and then I put it into a side bun for my protective style for the week.

Hair Length Goal for 2012 and my Braid Regimen.

So for my 2012 goals; I mentioned that I wanted to achieve armpit length hair or (APL) as it is affectionately called in the hair forums. I am currently at shoulder length (SL) or a little past SL when my natural hair is stretched. I haven't straightened my hair to get an accurate measure but it is SL. I'm guessing that I need about 6 more inches of hair to reach APL.

I plan to protective style 100% of the time this year. LOL I will probably let it out on weekends here and there but honestly my hair retains length better when I leave it alone. Styles that last for a week or more are my strands best friend! I will be wearing buns, updo's and braids. I will probably start getting braids before this month is over and continue with them until around October with short 1 to 2 week rest periods of wearing a lose bun. During the rest periods; I will also do hot oil treatments. deep conditioner treatments, protein treatments and etc. Whatever my hair needs at the time. I will also follow my braid regimen.

Braid Regimen is as follows: 
Infusium 23 leave in (Use as my daily Moisturizer)
A natural oil to seal (jojoba oil, coconut oil, olive oil, or castor oil)  I also like Doo gro oil
ORS Herbal Cleanse Dry Shampoo to clean my scalp between washes.
I sleep on a satin pillowcase at night so no need to tie these braids down with a scarf.
I do a full wash whenever my hair and scalp tell me it needs it but normally wait at least 3 weeks when hair is first braided.
Get perimeter rebraided every 4 weeks(This timeframe may change; right now I am playing it by ear and also going by when my braider said to get the perimeter re-done.)
 I normally keep braids for 12 weeks at a time or roughly 3 months.
When wearing cornrows or twists I wear them anywhere from 2-4 weeks depending on the style.

Foot Injury and a temporary halt to the walking challenge.

I'm hurt. I've been walking through and dealing with the pain of my foot. I believe that it is my achilles heel so for now I have to stop walking the treadmill because it's very painful. 
 I'm going to try and heal it myself by soaking it in very warm water and epsom salt and taking it easy. If it doesn't get better; I'll be paying a visit to the podiatrist. I've already researched and found one right around the corner from the house. I pray that it isn't anything serious. I will still stick to my water challenge and green smoothies. I will also make sure I continue to eat right so that I don't gain any weight. I will keep you all updated.

Walking Challenge continued!!!!!

So if you've been keeping up with my blog; on February 1st I started a  30 day walking challenge. I'm very suprised to be seeing results already. I won't be satistifed though until the clothes that I have no longer fit because they are falling off!!!! So, the journey continues......

New Year's Resolutions--Check in #1

Ok by this time most people have abandoned the resolutions that they set back on January 1. I am so glad that I have this blog because it keeps me accountable for what I need to do...aka handling my business. So Let's take a look at where I am:

Lose 75 pounds 32 pounds down
-Blog as much as possible Working on it
-Enroll my son in Pre- K Working on it
-Get a promotion at work Done!
-Payoff minor debts so that I can raise credit score to my goal (My scores are already pretty good but their is a goal number that I want to achieve.) Paid off 5 things; 2 to go
-Continue to  Daily!
-Continue to protective style and take care of my natural hair DONE
-Read the entire Bible ( I have an entire library of books and I plan to read more this year as well. In the past I have been so consumed with school that I haven't had time to read simply for pleasure...this is the year I will start! Working on it; not reading the bible in order so far but I am reading and studying it and I just purchased a new book by TD Jakes.
-Buy a house Working on it. Searching for something that we all like
- Enhance Earring Collection Building the collection
-Drink more water Yes, yes, yes; starting another 30 day challenge today March 1st!
-Continue to limit/eliminate the consumption of Red meat The only time I've had red meat this year was meatballs at a potluck in February.
-Continue Researching PhD programs I've been looking at Liberty University but haven't put in an application. Really haven't concentrated on this one as much....but it is in the back of my mind.


I am not an expert in haircare/beauty and etc. I simply blog about what works for ME and what I like or dislike. Also I DO NOT NORMALLY measure when I cook. I AM an expert in Business as I have mastered that field but I will not be giving advice on personal business unless it is general info such as how to improve your credit. That answer is to simply pay your bills on time and do not over spend. Always buy what you can pay back... lol. I do not claim any responsibility for the results you've obtained from reading suggestions on my blog.
