Freetress Equal Synthetic Braid - Marley Braid

I created a bun using Freetress Equal Synthetic Braid - Marley Braid Hair. I love this hair because it matches my natural hair texture. I used one pack. It was $4.99. This is the same hair that I use when I wear kinky twists. This is a great protective style that lasts all week long. So far this is the only pic that I can get to load. I'll post more if I can...

So why did you go natural?

I get this question a lot. My hunny bunny has always loved natural hair and use to want me to grow dreads or wear some type of natural style. I always wanted natural hair but just didn't have the proper knowledge on how to transition to natural. I also didn't know how to care for natural hair so I was a bit afraid. One day I got a relaxer from the salon. She used Mizani and my nape area broke off horribly. I struggled for years to get it to grow back. It never did until I grew out the relaxer. My hair was beautiful relaxed but my nape area was getting worse and worse and my hair was becoming more and more uneven in the back. They say pictures are worth a thousand words; so here is the reason why I went natural:

From the front and overall; you couldn't reall tell that my hair was so damaged in the back. Here are a few facial pics of my relaxed hair:

Ok now here is a pic of my nape area straightened. This is since going natural and it is growing back very nicely.

I will update pics of my nape the next time I straighten; so look for it in a future blog. I want to show more detailed images and show the very back.

Don't QUIT!

Here is a poem that I had to learn/memorize when I was a freshman in college. It has stuck with me ever since!!!!

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Office Gossip and Workplace Drama!

I was a little hesitant about writing this blog post because I want this blog to be uplifting and positive; not only for me; but also for my readers. Their comes a time when you just need to get things off your chest. I did say that this blog would cover many topics so here we go.

Office gossip and workplace drama are two things that you need to stay far, far away from when you consider yourself a professional person that wants to climb the ladder at your place of employment. I work in corporate america and lately I have come across a lot of gossip and drama at work. The best thing for me to do is to remove myself from the situations that have risen and that is exactly what I am doing. One of the biggest issues that I have at work is JEALOUSY. It seems like it has gotten worse ever since I got my MBA in March of 2011 and it was announced to the entire department that I had recently became a part of. I had no idea that it would be announced and honestly I was a little upset because I knew that people would treat me differently than they had previously and sure 'nuff; I was right. I currently work in a department where a degree let alone 2 degrees aren't even necessary. The people around me have had the same opportunities that I've had to reach their educational goals. I'm no different from anybody else; I don't treat anyone like I am better. This along with other petty things has let me know that it is time for me to move on. The department I previously worked for was so much more professional. In the current department that I work for even management could use a course or two in respect and professionalism. I have been posting out to other positions within the company left and right and I am praying that something comes through very soon. I am literally at my wits end. I am giving myself until April to find a position and if nothing by then; I will be looking for careers outside of the company. Yes I know some will read this and say what's the big deal, just ignore them. And I will respond to that by saying; yes I do ignore them but there just comes a time when you have to move on.

Thoughts?

30 Day Water Challenge: Part Deux--DAY 7

OMG I am so proud of myself. I've been drinking water like crazy. I like Deer Park and I'm sticking with it. I hate Dasani water and that is all we have at work so I'll have to keep bringing mine from home. Drinking the bulk of my water at work is really helping as well. The last time I did this challenge; I wasn't as excited by day 7; in fact I was ready to quit. I'm just taking it one day at a time. It helps that others around me have similar goals as well.

Product Review: Organic Root Stimulator Replenishing Conditioner

Product Features:
Helps Restore Moisture and Rebuild Damaged Hair
Stimulates the Root of your Hair
Deep Penetrating Conditioner

Product Description:
Deep penetrating conditioner. Helps restore moisture & rebuild damaged hair.

Directions:
After shampooing, apply a generous amount to hair and comb through for thorough distribution. Place a plastic cap over the hair and sit under a warm dryer for 10-15 minutes or leave on the hair for 45 minutes to 1 hour without heat. Rinse thoroughly.

I liked this product when I was relaxed and I like it even more now that I am natural. It left my hair very moisturized. I left it on my hair for a couple of hours with a plastic cap and a scarf. I highly recommend this product for someone looking for a light protein conditioner that still moisturizes their hair. Days later; my hair still feels great!

Natural Hair Ridicule.

Definition of RIDICULE

transitive verb

: to make fun of

— rid·i·cul·ernoun

Synonym Discussion of RIDICULE
ridicule, deride, mock, taunt, mean to make an object of laughter. ridicule implies a deliberate often malicious belittling

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ridiculing

Long definition but I wanted to be clear about how I worded the title of this blog. I wanted it to be true to the way I have felt when people have made rude comments towards my natural hair.
Hear are a few of the comments I have heard recently.
"Your hair is nappy." "You need to put on a wig or get a quick-weave or something." "Why won't you straighten it; it's long enough?" "So what are you going to do when it's hot?" "If your hair is natural why aren't you wearing it in an afro." "That is too much! That is more work than having a perm. That's why I perm my hair every two weeks." "You think wearing your hair natual is cool but it ain't. Don't nobody wear their hair like that down here!" "Mmm,Im glad you put some moisturizer on your hair cuz it was lookin' a mess." "How long do you plan to wear your hair braided?"

I could go on and on.

This video says a lot! LOL

I just thank God that I am happy with the skin I'm in and the hair that he has given me. I am fearfully and wonderfully made! By the way; when I do decide to straighten my hair; they are going to be asking how I got my hair so long....lmbo!

Transitioning from Relaxed to Natural Tips

Here are my tips for transitioning from relaxed to natural.

1. Transition for YOU not for anyone else. So many people will give you their opinions on what they think you should be doing with your hair.
2. Patience. This is soooooo NOT an overnight process. You have to be patient and know that with time you will meet your goals.
3. Think Simple. The simpler the hairstyle; the less frustrated you will be.
4. Heat. Use heat wisely. If it works for you; go for it. If not; stay far, far away.
5. Protective style. Protective styling is a life saver. The more you can keep your hands out of your hair and let it do its thing; the better.

Product Review: Keracare Dry and Itchy Scalp Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

Features
KeraCare Dry & Itchy Scalp Moisturizing Shampoo is a superb treatment specifically formulated to alleviate dry and itchy scalp conditions. • It cleans hair and scalp while eliminating flakiness. • Contains superb moisturizers that help protect the hair and scalp. • Decreases interfiber friction. • Excellent for both natural and chemically treated hair. • Available in Gallon, 32 fl. oz. (pictured) and 8 fl. oz. sizes.

Benefits
• Protects against dryness which is a major cause of itchiness.

• With regular use, helps to prevent flaky scalps.

• Superior detangling for easy wet and dry combing.

• Leaves hair and scalp in a healthy looking condition.

Directions
Apply to wet hair and gently lather with fingertips. Rinse and repeat if necessary. Shampoo with KeraCare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo for a final sudsing. ( I understand why it says this because the dry and itchy scalp poo is no way near as moisturizing as the Hydrating detangling shampoo).Follow with KeraCare Dry & Itchy Scalp Moisturizing Conditioner

I picked this product up by accident!! The man at the beauty supply store said that it was the same as the Keracare hydrating detangling shampoo
but that the company had changed the bottle. Silly me; I should have read the label better. I just saw keracare shampoo and assumed it was the same. Nope it's not. With this product; my hair was that squeaky clean feeling. I could actually hear the squeaking. My hair was not as moisturized as with the hydrating detangling poo and it didn't feel as detangled. I will still keep this product since it combats dandruff because I suffer from dandruff from time to time but I am going back to the store for the other shampoo. Not a bad poo at all; just not what I was looking for at this time.

30 Day Water Challenge: Part Deux!

(Hangs head low)....I'm back for part 2 of the 30 Day Water Challenge. The last challenge; I only made it for about 15 of the 30 days. This time I want to complete the challenge. It's not going to be easy; but that is why it's called a challenge. I plan to pack 2 to 3 16.9 ounce bottles of water in my lunch bag for work daily. That way when I am at home I will only be required to drink one or two bottles. For home I may drink one bottle in the morning and one in the evening. That gives me my daily goal intake of 67.6 bottles of water per day. So far today I have had 2 bottles. I have one bottle in the car and will drink that on the commute home. I've also gone a step further by getting the co-workers around me involved. We all have committed to drinking more water and have said that we will at least drink it while at work. My boss is even doing....WOOT!!

Product Review: Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel

Product Description
Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel contains 100% pure olive oil for deep conditioning while maintaining maximum hold.

Product Features
No flaking, no tack and anti-itch
Contains 100% pure olive oil
Safe for all hair types
Alcohol-free

I like the way this gel holds my edges while wearing my updo. It doesn't leave my hair hard but I've quickly learned that reapplying it daily will make it feel a little crunchy but no biggie. I can resolve that by adding a little spray of water or moisturizer. I have not tried this product while wearing my hair "out". I'll update when/if I do.

Who knew that Vick's vapor rub helps with a cough?!

I have been feeling a little under the weather lately. I have this hacking, annoying cough. No stuffy nose thank God! The only thing that has helped this cough are halls cough drops. Other than that I cough all day and especially at night. Well at night I can't have a cough drop in my mouth while laying down so I had to do something about it because the coughing was keeping me from being able to go to sleep!!! Now I've heard about putting vicks vapor rub on the bottom of your feet and then putting on cotton socks. It is supposed to stop the cough. I was desperate last night so I tried it. I only had the baby vick's vapor rub so I didn't think that it would be as effective. It worked!!! And thank God that it did. I only coughed two more times after that. I was so relieved.I highly recommend this technique to anyone that is suffering from a cough and doesn't like to take medicine like me.

You can purchase vicks at any drugstore.

P.S. *****Just wanted to note that for me this does not work if you are up walking around. It only works for me when I am in bed. So I put the vapor rub on the soles of my feet; put on cotton socks and lay down*****

Shrinkage compared to My Blown out Fro...

Happy New Year everyone. So this is the first time that I've used direct heat in a while. I wanted to see how big my fro had gotten. The first pic is showing how my hair shrinks. This is my shrinkage after it is dry and barely any product. Here are the results...

January 1st, 2012

January 2, 2012

Products used: Aphogee shampoo for damaged hair, Aphogee balancing conditioner, Elucene moisture balancing conditioner(let sit for over an hour). Blow dried using Cantu leave in(I'll get the correct name later because I will do a review about it), coconut oil and hask pure shine polishing serum.

No more heat for a few months. Afer the blow out; I put my hair into an updo just like this one--http://acurlygirlallthedaysofmylife.blogspot.com/2011/12/natural-hair-updo.html

I've been thinking about getting braids again but it is so cold right now!!! We shall see.
